WYC 2017 Qualification Criteria

The 12th WESPA Youth Cup ("WYC", formerly the World Youth Scrabble Championship) will be held 27-29.11 at the Summit USJ Mall, Kuala Lumpur. See www.youthscrabble.org for details.

Eligibility

Singapore may select up to 10 youth players for free entry. A player is eligible to represent Singapore at the WYC 2017 if he or she is:

an SA member, and a Singapore citizen or permanent resident, from the end of qualifying period (QP) to the commencement of the WYSC;
is born on 1st January 2000 or later;
has played a minimum of 16 SA-rated games during the QP;
has played in at least two different SA-rated tournaments during the QP;
and has a minimum SA rating of 1400 at the end of the QP.

Qualifying Period

The QP is from 21 May 2017 to 31 October 2017.

Treatment of Byes

Byes will not be used in the calculation of ratings. Byes awarded to a player will count towards the 16-game minimum requirement; byes conceded by a player will not count towards this.

Selection Criteria

The places available to Singapore will be offered to eligible youth players after the conclusion of the QP from the highest-rated in descending order. Any spots available as players decline or become ineligible will be offered to reserves in descending order by SA rating.
